C4C U16 WIN SUPPLEMENTARY CUP
At Seaview, the final of the U16 SBYFL Supplementary Cup was played between C4C Youth Academy and Holywood Youth. An exciting occasion for everyone involved in the clubs stepping out onto the famous Crusaders pitch and with the fans packed into stand it was going to be night to remember.
An electric start from C4C saw them dominate the opening exchanges. Some great passing between Callum McKibbin and Ethan McLaughlin created an opportunity for Matthew Worthington to instinctively tap in for 1-0 after only two minutes. C4C kept piling on the pressure with Jordan Foster flicking the ball over two defenders and rifling his shot towards goal but was just high. C4C found great success in wide areas with wingbacks Cammy McMullan and Ben Turtle stretching the Holywood defence at every opportunity and delivering great crosses into the box.
After the interval C4C came out with the intention to kill the game off. A great performance in midfield by captain Sam Clarke, he fought and battled hard to get control of the game and alongside Ethan McLaughlin they started to dictate the tempo. Holywood tried to fight back but the back three of Morrow, Pogue and Faulkner were unshakable, impressive playing out from the back and disciplined in their tackles.
Soon after Jordan Foster was at it again and was brought down in the box by the keeper and the referee awarded a penalty. Callum McKibbin stepped up and smashed home to make it 2-0. C4C moved the ball beautifully in the second half and the introduction of Kai Kirk and Adam McLaughlin saw an injection of pace and power. After some good work down the wing, Kirk whipped a cross in for Adam McLaughlin to swivel and smash in on the half-volley, 3-0.
A tired midfield needed rejuvenation so Cameron Russell came on for C4C and gave some much needed calm on the ball. Holywood threw all they had at C4C in the closing stages, but goalkeeper Ross McKillop made two world class saves fighting for his clean sheet. With Holywood pressing hard, Jack McPeak came on to tighten up the defence, but instead with his first touch scored at the back post after another cross into the box.
An excellent performance from start to finish by C4C tonight, worthy winners on the night with the style of football beautiful to watch.
