Summer Camp Report: Cork

A team of eight  left on Sunday 11th July to embark on the 6 hr drive down to Youghal – a seaside town in County Cork. This was C4C’s second visit to Youghal having made a good impression on the area a year previously.

We were invited back again by Mervyn Scott of the Baptist Missions who is faithfully working in that area proclaiming the wonderful gospel. Mervyn is involved in many types of outreach and felt that C4C would  again be well received by the people of the area.

During the week we were able to coach and share something of our faith with over 40 young people and Mervyn was able to make contact with many of the parents as they left their children off. We found the people of the town to be very friendly with parents thanking us and telling us how their kids were so excited always looking forward to the next days coaching.

As usual we used the pattern over the four days of Creation where Colum gave them the Biblical account of how God created the world. Then Matt spoke of how sin entered the world through Adam and how we ALL have sinned and fall short of God’s standard. Andy then told of the good news of Jesus and how He came into the world to save us from that sin by being our “substitute” and taking the punishment we deserve as He was crucified. Then on the last day with the age groups split Shug and Cheesey were able to speak about salvation and how we can have it.

Mervyn finished the week off with a short epilogue before the prizes were handed out for the World Cup Tournament with the kids and some parents listening intently to God’s Word at the side of the pitch in Youghal.

C4C would like to thank Mervyn and all those who looked after us and made us feel very welcome by opening their homes to us and providing our meals for the week.
